The power of traction.
The SoftTrack Skidgine is distinguished by its advanced suspension system. Conventional tracked vehicles, such as bulldozers, operate with minimal or no suspension, which prevents the tracks from articulating over uneven terrain. As a result, these machines tend to displace obstacles rather than traverse them, causing significant ground disturbance. While such impact is acceptable on construction sites—where landscaping restores the area in a later phase—it presents serious concerns in wildland fire operations. Once vegetation has burned and topsoil has been displaced, regrowth becomes difficult or impossible. In hilly or rugged country, this disturbance compounds with subsequent erosion: dozer lines often become channels of least resistance for runoff, carrying silt into downstream lakes, rivers, and ponds, and increasing the risk of mudslides and harm to surrounding wildlife.
Very low enviormental impact.
The SoftTrack Skidgine addresses these concerns directly. Its soft tracks distribute weight evenly across the terrain, producing minimal ground compaction and substantially reducing environmental impact compared to conventional dozers. The system also delivers superior traction relative to rubber-tired skidgines, which tend to lose grip on steep or rugged ground and dig ruts that accelerate erosion. By maintaining traction without compromising soil structure, the SoftTrack Skidgine performs reliably in initial attack scenarios and across both wildland-urban interface and rural environments, reaching ground that conventional equipment cannot.
Uniqe design, super effective alternative to aircraft.
Our SoftTrack Skidgine is powered by a 220 HP Detroit Diesel 6V53N engine. It has a top speed of up to 20 mph.
The unit features a 1,620-gallon water capacity that can be refilled via helicopter, along with multiple hose configurations.
Equipped with a portable 6HP 2" Kawasaki draft pump for filling with water. A Darley Davey mop-up pump and a Waterex BB4 4-stage high-pressure pump. A Darley Snuffer 25/40 CAFS unit provides foam.
