The King Fire just east of Sacramento, California grew to 3,900 acres today, nearly 2,000 of which burned overnight, and is currently threatening up to 500 homes according to officials.

The cause of the King Fire is still under investigation and the 800+ personnel from Cal Fire are struggling to get a handle on the blaze, which sits at 10% containment as of Monday evening. High winds have led to a rapid spread, with spotting occurring up to 1 mile away in the heavily timbered region of the Eldorado National Forest. A mandatory evacuation order has been issues for portions of the nearby Pollock Pines community.

“We just want people to stay out [of their homes] for now”, Cal Fire spokeswoman Lynne Tolmachoff said on Monday. A full list of the areas affected by the evacuation order can be found via the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office.
