The Happy Camp Complex Fire continues to be a challenge for firefighters this week as a Red Flag Warning went into effect late Tuesday night, the result of expected strong winds and low humidity.

Evacuations near the complex remain in place, with the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office issuing a new mandatory order effective as of 6:00 PM on Tuesday. Information and specifics regarding all evacuation notices can be found here. Residents that have not evacuated are being asked to keep in mind smoke conditions, and to avoid prolonged exposure to poor air quality. Information regarding a Clean Air Respite Center in the area can be found at the aforementioned link.

A rapid drop in humidity has raised some concerns with fire officials on the Happy Complex this week, with relative humidity going from 50% to just 7% this morning. The National Weather Service has issued a fire weather watch through tonight for conditions that could cause extreme fire behavior and long-range spotting.

To date, the Happy Camp Complex Fire has cost an estimated $41 million and burned over 71,000 acres. It is 15% contained as of today.
